Having the same surgical team in the room for every case is one of the most important things to me. I would rather play in a championship game with my winning teammates than be on an all star team with people who are individually excellent but don’t play together regularly. I am in the same room with the same people almost every case. They know where I am going. I don’t have to tell them I am going left or right. That kind of teamwork is what makes surgery go smoothly. For young surgeons who want that in their OR, it is about finding people who are OCD, goal oriented, and love trying really hard to do a great job. Once you become a junior attending, be really nice, find the people that are the right fit for your room, and slowly get them to want to be in your room. That is hard, but it is so worth it.
