I almost never recommend jumping straight to surgery. The rare exceptions are clear: Progressive motor weakness. Nerve damage that’s actively worsening. Pain so severe that other treatments simply aren’t humane. For most patients, there’s time to think, and time to get perspective. That’s why I strongly recommend at least two opinions, and often a third. If everyone agrees, great, the path forward is usually straightforward. If they don’t, that doesn’t mean you’re stuck. It means there may be more than one reasonable option. In those situations, keep learning, keep asking questions, and don’t give up. Information and support are more available
